Volunteer Opportunities

The Edible Campus project needs the support of NIU and the community. Whether you’re a student, employee or local resident, we invite you to come work with us. You can help with tasks such as preparing garden space, planting and harvesting. It’s a rewarding way to complete your volunteer hours, if you need them for University Honors, a fraternity, sorority, athletic team or other campus group. We also welcome you to coordinate an event with your entire student organization.

We’re grateful for all our volunteers and look forward to working together through many seasons. To get started volunteering, please contact us at ediblecampus@niu.edu.

An Opportunity for Employees

If you’re a full-time NIU employee, you can take advantage of the Huskies Give Back program. This program allows you to take up to 7.5 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer in your community. We invite you to consider using this time to work in the gardens. It’s a great way to make a difference on campus and show your commitment to service and stewardship, one of NIU’s core values.

Partnering with Huskie Food Pantry

Any produce from Anderson Market Garden that’s not sold to Campus Dining Services will be donated to the Huskie Food Pantry. This will provide easier access to fresh, nutritious food. By combining our efforts, we hope to help increase food security in our community. We invite you to join us by volunteering in the gardens or at the pantry.
