Hazing Policy

Hazing violates the standards and values of acceptable behavior of the Northern Illinois University campus community and is strictly not tolerated. As an institution, we are committed to promoting a safe environment for students to learn, develop and thrive.

Any student, student organization, group or affiliated individual who is alleged to have engaged in any form of hazing will be subject to full investigation and sanctioning through the student conduct process outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. Sanctioning includes but is not limited to disciplinary probation, suspension, loss of organizational recognition and or expulsion of individuals and organizational entities.

Hazing is also illegal in the state of Illinois and is serious crime by standard of legislature according to the Illinois General Assembly. Individuals affiliated with Northern Illinois University who engage in such behavior may not only be investigated through the student conduct process, but they will also be reported to the Northern Illinois University Police Department and subject to criminal charges. The National or Local Headquarters, NIU Athletics or other entity associated with a NIU-affiliated organization or group will be notified by the University should an investigation be initiated.
