School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences
Our school advances mathematics and statistics through research, innovative teaching and community engagement. We prepare you to work across pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education, actuarial science, data science and statistical inference, mastering the structures, models and algorithms that power discovery in science, industry and society.
There are many areas of study available to you — from pure theory to real-world applications like biology, science, education and predicting future trends. Along the way, you'll gain hands-on experience through research and practical learning. Our graduates go on to careers in academia, industry, finance, technology, healthcare, government and the sciences.
We offer:
- Real-world impact: Work with real data for university and industry clients under expert faculty supervision through the Application Involvement Component and Mathematical and Statistical Consulting Services.
- Flexible pathways and career preparation: Choose from bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs with specialized tracks. Build the analytical skills to translate complex data into insight and accelerate your path through competitive internships and graduate assistantships.
- Expert mentorship: Work with faculty whose research spans mathematical theory, statistical modeling, risk analysis, mathematical biology and educational innovation — addressing challenges in medicine, the environment and society.
- Connected support: The Mathematics Education Lab and the Statistics and Mathematics Assistance Center bridge classroom theory with practical application at every stage of your studies.
