Professor
Ph.D., University of Washington — Optimization Theory and Variational Analysis
Deng’s research spans optimization theory, variational analysis and their applications to nonlinear programming and equilibrium problems, with sustained contributions to error bounds, weak sharp minima, exact regularization of non-convex programs and multi-objective optimization. His current work focuses on sensitivity analysis in parametric optimization, error bounds for inequality systems and multi-stage stochastic problems. He has published in Mathematical Programming, SIAM Journal on Optimization, SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization and the Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, and received NIU's Honors Capstone Mentor of the Year Award (2026).
