Graduate Research in History

At NIU, graduate students in history engage in a range of stimulating research endeavors—from analyzing archival documents to examining cross-cultural connections and sharing findings through innovative digital platforms. Our program emphasizes both broad thematic interests (such as gender, race, and migration) and regional specializations across diverse historical periods. Guided by dedicated faculty mentors, students have opportunities to present at conferences, publish articles, and build meaningful academic networks. Whether you envision a project rooted in local history or one that draws on global perspectives, our program is designed to support you. To learn more about ongoing research projects or discuss potential graduate opportunities, please reach out to the Department of History at history@niu.edu.
