Alumni Updates

Lael Weinberger (M.A. ’13)

Lael joined the law faculty at George Mason University with a courtesy appointment in the history department in summer 2025. He previously worked for the U.S. Supreme Court and practiced law in Washington, D.C.

Justin Iverson (Ph.D. ’20)

Justin, a historian with the federal government at Langley AFB, contributed a chapter to Gulf South Rebels, Insurgents, and Revolutionaries, 1700–1860 (Palgrave, 2025). His book manuscript on the Ethiopian Regiment during the American Revolution is under review. He was again nominated for the Air Force’s Excellence in History Program Award after winning at the Air Combat Command level.

Nicole Dressler (Ph.D. ’18)

Nicole, associate teaching professor at William & Mary, is now History Advisor for the St. Andrews Joint Degree Programme. She presented research at Princeton University and the University of St Andrews and will attend the Digital Humanities Summer Institute at Université de Montréal in May 2025.

Susan Kwosek (Ph.D. ’19)

Susan, associate professor at South Carolina State University, published “Mythologizing the Lwa Demanbre: A Thought Experiment in the Nineteenth-Century History of Vodou” in New West Indian Guide (2024).

Thomas J. Suhrbur (Certificate of Advanced Studies in Labor History, ’85)

Thomas published Public Education and Social Reform: A History of the Illinois Education Association (University of Illinois Press, 2025).
