NIU BookLab

Our Mission

Rooted in a love of books and learning, NIU BookLab strives to preserve the rich history of the book while engaging critical and creative approaches to contemporary writing and design technologies.

Housed in Founders Memorial Library, NIU BookLab is an interdisciplinary maker space dedicated to the research and teaching of texts and technologies used for writing and sharing knowledge. Through hands-on experience in class visits, open studio hours, and workshops, NIU BookLab enables students, faculty and the community to explore historic bookmaking practices and emerging technologies. 

At NIU BookLab, we combine hands-on learning with the power of books to inspire, inform and transform.
