Advocacy and Lobbying

Guidelines for Policy Advocacy by NIU Employees

The following resources are aimed for those university employees who may wish to participate in advocacy and lobbying activities. They are aimed at ensuring advocacy efforts are effective, coordinated and consistent with legal and ethical requirements.

University Policy – in development

NIU Advocacy Network Website – The NIU Advocacy Network is an opportunity for faculty, staff, alumni, and university supporters to help advance the university's priorities in Springfield and Washington, D.C.

NIU Governmental Relations Website – The office of government relations is Northern Illinois University’s primary liaison with the state and federal governments. Through the Office of the President, government relations establishes the policy and legislative priorities for the university and represents NIU students, faculty and staff in Washington, D.C. and Springfield with offices in both locations.

NIU Ethics and Compliance Office – This office should be consulted if an employee wishes to engage in political activity during work time or have other compliance or ethics related questions.
