What did you want to be when you were growing up? Are you pursuing that as a major, or have you taken another path?
Growing up, I looked up to my dad, who is an engineer. For that reason, I always wanted to be an engineer. I chose to pursue a degree in engineering here at NIU due to the great facilities and staff at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology.

What is your major (and/or minor) and why did you decide on this course of study?
My major is mechanical engineering. I chose this major because I have always been good at math, and I also love working on cars, dirt bikes and other machines. Mechanical engineering was the perfect way to combine those two skills.

What has been something you have found pleasantly surprising about your experience at NIU?
I've really enjoyed living on campus.

How have you connected with other students to study for classes, meet new people or form new friendships?
I have made plenty of friends just by playing sports like basketball and football with lots of different people.

What NIU offices, departments or resources have helped you feel safe, supported and successful? And how?
The advising office has done a great job answering my questions and helping me pick the right classes to stay on track.

What Honors Program opportunities or support have helped you get closer to your academic or career goals so far?
The honors advisors and the priority class selection have allowed me to have a great schedule each semester and stay on track.

What do you enjoy the most about the Honors Program?
I enjoy all the benefits as well as the support I receive from the honors staff.

Who has been one of your favorite instructors/professors and why? What course did they teach?
My favorite professor was Madelyn Anderson, who taught Honors Coms 100. She was super friendly and willing to help me anytime. She also made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable while giving their speeches, which is nerve-racking for many people.

How have you benefited by attending class regularly?
By attending class, and more importantly paying attention and taking good notes, I have been able to understand the material in all of my classes far better. Going to class also allows you to ask questions when you don't understand things.

Where is your favorite spot on campus or in the community? Why are you drawn to it?
My favorite spot is the Rec Center. I enjoy working out with their great selection of equipment. I also love to play basketball, and it is a great place to meet others who also love to play.

What advice would you give to a student who is researching colleges to apply to?
Regardless of the school you choose, if you have an open mind and are outgoing, you will have a great time and receive a great education.

Why is a college education important to you?
A college education is important because it prepares me for my future career.

What strategies do you use to manage your time between the responsibilities of school, work, friends and family?
I have a planner that allows me to keep track of everything I need to do and make sure I get it all done in a timely manner.

How do you stay informed about events and services that are available on campus?
I check my email every day. The school does a great job emailing me about important events.

What do you do to relax or recharge?
I usually go to the dining hall to eat and talk to my friends.

Please tell us about your job and hobbies.
I like playing sports, especially basketball, which is why I am on an intramural basketball team with some of my friends. I also love to watch football, which has allowed me to meet many new friends at NIU with the same interest in the sport. Another thing I love to do is work on cars and dirt bikes. It is very rewarding to fix or improve a vehicle, and it is even more fun to drive them.
