For FY23, student fees remain unchanged at $8 per credit hour, per semester (with a maximum of 12 credit hours - $96 per semester) which covers expenses such as utilities, maintenance and cleaning of the Recreation Center, Chick Evans Field House and Outdoor Recreation Sports Complex. This fee is a portion of the Student Support Service Fee that students pay each semester which support recreation facilities.

In addition, students pay $0.66 per credit hour per semester (with a maximum of 12 credit hours - $7.92 per semester) which supports recreation programs, services and departmental operations. This fee is a portion of the activity fee that students pay each semester.

Note: Athletic fees only pay for NCAA athletic teams and events. No portion of the athletic fee is used for Recreation.

The Student Government Association plays a critical role in the university's system of shared governance. NIU Recreation consistently works with Student Government Association representatives to discuss concerns and develop solutions that further advance recreational opportunities for NIU students. More specifically, the president, vice president, director of athletics and recreation, and the speaker of the senate serve as the voice of the student body regarding students' recreational needs.
