Faculty Guidance
You'll work closely with our dedicated faculty members, many of whom have been celebrated for their achievements in teaching and research. Our faculty have received Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and have been named Presidential Teaching Professors and Presidential Research Professors.
You'll benefit greatly from our faculty members' expert guidance. If you're interested in building your own teaching skills, the insight they provide will be invaluable. We have a long history of producing top-quality teachers.
Resources
You'll have access to many resources to enhance your education. The tutors at the Huskie Academic Support Center can help you with your courses. We also have excellent library holdings, featuring hundreds of research journals and monographs.
In addition, we invite lecturers from NIU and other institutions to share their expertise in a series of seminars. These events are great networking opportunities. You can also make connections by joining the Math Club.
Financial Support
If you're an undergraduate, NIU provides many ways to help you afford your education. Our department offers several scholarships and awards. You can also qualify for loans, grants and other sources of support. Learn more at the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
If you're a graduate student, you may be eligible for departmental financial support. About half of our graduate students receive significant financial assistance. We offer graduate teaching assistantships with full tuition waivers. In addition, the Graduate School offers assistantships and fellowships, some specifically designated for minorities and women in areas in where they are underrepresented.
