Faculty Mentor Interest Form

Faculty Mentors play an extremely important role in the development of the next generation of researchers. Research Rookies Faculty Mentors guide undergraduate students who are brand new to research through the research or artistry process by providing learning resources and necessary tools to be able to successfully assist with an existing research project.

Research Rookies (RR) are current NIU students (freshmen – senior) who are participating in research for the first time. RR complete a series of research bootcamp workshops during the fall semester and professional development workshops in the spring semester. They work on a faculty-mentored project starting as early as September through end of April and present their research during the annual Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement.

I really enjoy my involvement in Research Rookies because I've gotten to interact with my faculty mentor and the graduate students in her lab. This has really broadened my horizons as to what academic research looks like.
