Internships in Economics
Internships are the best way to connect what you've learned in the classroom to real-world job experience. The minimum number of work hours for an internship at NIU is 120; the position you choose should be related to economics and may be completed during the fall, spring, or summer semesters.
To earn credit for your internship which counts toward their degree, students should first meet with the Director of Undergraduate Studies to plan out the internship and obtain all the necessary documents, to register for Economics 494 and submit the internship permission form. This form serves as an agreement between you and the Department defining what you wish to accomplish and the requirements to receive credit. These requirements generally include the student ensuring economic concepts are integrated into the position.
Once the Department is satisfied that the goals and requirements have been met, a grade for the Economics 494 course is assigned and a statement is added to the student's transcript saying; "Completed a career-related work experience documented by Career Services."
Suppose you are unable to locate a position for yourself. In that case, you may go to Career Services for assistance and they will help you locate a position appropriate for your major that may either be paid or unpaid with a salary range from $8.00 to $12.00 an hour.
