Research Activities

My research focuses on microplastics and emerging contaminants in freshwater and groundwater systems. I manage and operate the Microplastics Lab at NIU, including method development, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) and polymer identification using Laser Direct Infrared (LDIR) spectroscopy. My work integrates geochemical analysis with environmental monitoring to understand contaminant sources, transport pathways, and distribution patterns, as well as potential impacts on ecosystems and human health. I conduct both field sampling and laboratory analysis and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support sustainable water resource management.
