Who Are Our Interns?
Full-time graduate students enrolled in at least 10 credit hours per semester, maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA to stay in good academic standing.
Partner with NIU and host an MPA intern.
Our MPA program produces highly qualified students eager to contribute their strong analytical research and communication skills to your organization. Gain a fresh perspective and cost-effective support, allowing you to supplement your workforce while strengthening your ties with the university and contributing to the development of future public service leaders.
NIU interns have provided a great resource to assist with special projects, research and organizational support while training the next generation as a reinvestment in the future of the profession

Full-time graduate students enrolled in at least 10 credit hours per semester, maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA to stay in good academic standing.
Interns apply and develop 13 core public administration competencies through their coursework and practical internship experience.
Interns typically work 20-24 hours per week during the semester, with potential for additional hours during semester breaks.
Each semester is split into two eight-week sessions, with interns taking one to two courses per session (usually one class per week), so flexible work schedules are key.
Internship supervisors play a vital role in mentoring interns and providing practical learning opportunities aligned with public administration skills.
