Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence
Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence (NICNE) has been providing capacity building, training, technical assistance and resource support to nonprofit organizations within our region since August 2004. NICNE is the region's primary resource for nonprofit management and leadership development. NICNE strengthens nonprofits by providing education, training, technical assistance, and assessments, and encourages collaboration resulting in a strong, vibrant nonprofit sector critical to a healthy community. NIU’s Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies
The Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies, established in 2010, is an academic unit and interdisciplinary resource at NIU that serves students, faculty, researchers, and nonprofit leaders in the northern Illinois region and beyond. Its purpose is to provide high-quality academic offerings, research, and programming related to non-governmental organizations, nonprofits, and other forms of public service. In partnership with the CLA, the Center hopes to strengthen opportunities for continuing education among individuals working with the region's nonprofit community.
The Center offers an undergraduate major, minor and certificate in Nonprofit and NGO Studies to NIU students. Students of these programs regularly take part in service-learning, internship, and volunteer opportunities with nonprofit organizations throughout the region. The Center also provides a variety of workshops, trainings, and other programming for nonprofit employees, volunteers, and board members. Continuing Professional Education
The NIU Outreach Department of Continuing Professional Education and the Center for Governmental Studies specializes in the delivery of programs for Human Resources, Project Management, Facility Management, Finance and Accounting, Non-profit and Public Management/Administration Professionals. Programs are offered virtually as well as at multiple locations throughout northern Illinois. Training is provided in programmed series like the Civic Leadership Academy, and may also be customized for in-house delivery for businesses and governmental/non-profit organizations. Giving DuPage (GD)
Giving DuPage is a proud partner of the NIU Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) providing quality training opportunities to nonprofit and social service agencies in the region. Giving DuPage is the DuPage County Volunteer Center whose mission is to promote giving and volunteering throughout DuPage County.
In support of its mission, Giving DuPage supports over 450 nonprofit organizations serving DuPage County with programming focused on service, civic engagement and accessing existing resources. Giving DuPage connects people who want to give back to the places to give back locally and our role is to mobilize volunteers, equip organizations and inspire our community.
By partnering with the NIU Civic Leadership Academy, Giving DuPage offers nonprofit oriented courses centered on professional development, organizational efficiency and informed leadership. The partnership between CLA and Giving DuPage is the result of combining resources for shared goals and provides the DuPage nonprofit sector with a quality certification program. Volunteer Center McHenry County
Providing services in the community since 2009, Volunteer Center McHenry County (VCMC) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping nonprofits build capacity. The agency plays an integral role in delivering best practices, professional development opportunities and volunteer connectivity to nonprofit organizations—all with the goal of helping them succeed.
Through its professional development workshops, VCMC focuses on five core areas of knowledge that are essential to nonprofit success: fundraising, leadership, marketing, grant writing, and volunteer management. Utilizing a dedicated volunteer management tool, VCMC allows nonprofits to share volunteer opportunities with the community and post wish-lists of much need items.
