This NIU Planning & Cost Estimator was designed for estimating tuition costs, mandatory fees, housing, and other costs assessed by Northern Illinois University for fall 2018 and spring 2019. Note: These estimates only represent eligible charges and credits that are billed through the Office of the Bursar.
Truth-In-Tuition is for Illinois residents enrolling for the first time at NIU as degree-seeking undergraduates. Students will be charged a fixed tuition rate for four continuous years beginning with their initial enrollment.
Effective fall 2018, NIU extends the Truth-in-Tuition policy to all first-time, degree-seeking undergraduate out-of-state U.S. citizens and permanent resident students that graduated from a U.S. high school.
All in-state, non degree-seeking students and post-baccalaureate students will be charged the most current tuition rate regardless of when they were initially enrolled at the university.
Students who will be living in the Residence Halls for an upcoming semester may open a Huskie Bucks account through Housing and Residential Services and charge the money to their Bursar Account. Huskie Bucks can be used to purchase food at on & off campus dining locations and select restaurants in the area. Huskie Bucks are the only way to do laundry in the residence halls. They can be used for printing/copying at NIU labs and much more. Dollars not used by the end of the semester will roll over.
For any general questions regarding Huskie Bucks, visit OneCard ID Services.
Students who will be living in the Residence Halls for an upcoming semester may purchase Flex Dollars through Housing and Residential Services. Flex Dollars can be used at other campus dining locations and select non-residential locations. The funds are allocated once per semester and rollover from week to week. Dollars not used by the end of the semester will be forfeited.
For any general questions regarding Flex Dollars, visit Housing & Residential Services.
