For a full year student, most types of financial aid are split between fall and spring terms. When using this estimator, make sure to enter the amount for each term separately.

The financial aid reflected on a bill prior to the start of a semester is an estimate and, unlike tuition and fees, may not reflect actual registration. Prior to the start of a year or semester, initial financial aid awards are based on an assumption of full-time enrollment. Financial aid is periodically adjusted to match actual enrollment. The first repackaging of aid to match current enrollment occurs a few days prior to the first billing statement for a semester (July for fall semester). Only students with registration for that semester are included. Repackaging will occur again prior to each billing statement until the semester begins. All students will be repackaged when enrollment is official at the end of the drop/add period, the second week of classes.

Grants and scholarships that are restricted to tuition and fees are disbursed to your bill prior to the first bill for a semester. Disbursement begins for all other aid, including student loans and Pell Grants, after the end of the drop/add period.

See Student’s Rights and Responsibilities for details on individual financial aid programs. It is important to note that financial aid eligibility is determined in accordance with the laws, regulations and appropriation of the U.S. Congress, the state of Illinois, the NCAA and Northern Illinois University, and is subject to adjustment or cancellation in the event of changes to these laws or your eligibility.
