Fund Descriptions

02 Funds

Consist of:

  • General Revenue Funds – fiscal year state appropriation.
  • University Income Funds – tuition and fees (academic program enhancement surcharge, campus improvement fee, application fee, graduation fee) used to support the academic mission of the university as well as for student career success, both directly and indirectly.

04 Funds (Restricted)

Consist of:

  • University Income Funds – class fees for materials/laboratory/field trips used in support of the classes for which the fees were approved and in the manner for which the fees were approved.

29-33 Funds (Restricted)

Consists of:

  • Revenue Bond Operations (29)/Capital Improvement Reserves (30)/Equipment Reserves (31)/and Debt Service (32&33) Funds – funds derived from entities whose facilities were paid for via the sale of bonds, such as: student fees plus revenues from the operations of residence halls/apartments (food, board, laundry); HSC/Campus Life (bookstore, food service, hotel); Field House/Recreation Center (fees and rental); Parking (usage fees and fines); and Stadium/Convocation Center/BAVC (rental, events, food sales). These funds are used in support of the auxiliary system facilities and operations. This includes general university operations to the extent that they support the auxiliary system.

41 Funds

Consists of:

  • Auxiliary Enterprises Funds – generated and supported through the activities of the enterprise or student fees dedicated to those enterprises, such as Health Services, Intercollegiate Athletics, Student Contract Busing and University Press.
  • Local Funds – non-appropriated funds that include research grants and contracts; various sales and service accounts; activities such as regional centers (Rockford and Naperville); conferences/workshops; SSRI/Governmental Studies; camps; Study Abroad programs; and student activity fees (clubs /organizations). These funds also include recovered facilities and administrative costs (also known as indirect costs), which are a reimbursement for the university’s infrastructure investment in grant activities. Funds are used to support student career success through activities that broaden the student experience and provide opportunities beyond the traditional classroom environment.

44 Funds (Restricted)

Consists of:

  • Gifts, Grants and Contracts – funds managed for specific purposes as defined by the granting agency, including federal, state and private entities, used for the specific purpose that the grant was awarded and within the guidelines of the grant.

55 Funds (Restricted)

Consists of:

  • Foundation Funds: funds from the foundation used for payroll costs in support of the academic mission of the university.
