Steps to Reenrollment

This checklist contains steps students commonly need to take to reenroll at NIU. Depending on your situation, you may have to take steps not listed here. We encourage you to contact a reenrollment advisor to make sure you complete all the steps necessary for your circumstances. 

Financial

    Resolve existing balance (if applicable).

    Fill out FAFSA (if applicable).

    Fill out financial aid verification forms (if applicable).

    Contact Financial Aid and Scholarship Office regarding a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeal (if applicable).

Application

    Complete returning student application (if you have not enrolled in two fall/spring semesters).

    If academically dismissed, complete letter of reinstatement (if applicable). Please note: if you were academically dismissed and reapplying with a letter of reinstatement, the review process may take a bit longer than two weeks.

    Send NIU any transcripts from other institutions you have attended since leaving NIU (if applicable).

Additional Steps After Application (and Admission)

    Confirm access to MyNIU.

    Accept admission in MyNIU.

    Resolve “to do” list in MyNIU (if applicable).

    Verify access to student Office 365/email account.

Advising and Registration

    Meet with your academic advisor to make plans for your coursework.

    Officially change your major/minors (if applicable).

    Register for classes.
