Academic Dismissal Appeal Procedure

We understand that many factors contribute to how well you do in your courses. If you’ve received an academic dismissal because you didn’t get the required grade point average (GPA), we want you to have the opportunity to explain your situation. You can do this by submitting an appeal. We’ll consider the information you provide and decide whether or not to allow you to stay at NIU.

Your appeal must include the following:

  • Clear explanation of extenuating circumstances.
  • Realistic academic plan.
  • Identification of campus resources you would use.
  • Specific class schedule you would ideally enroll in if able to return for the next term.

Log in with your Z-ID and password to access the dismissal appeal form.
