Criminal Disclosure Information

Northern Illinois University is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all members of the university community. As part of this commitment, the university requires admitted students to disclose information regarding their criminal background and/or misconduct that resulted in disciplinary separation from schools/universities you have attended.

These cases will be reviewed by an appointed committee of the university on an individual basis after the initial application review is completed, but prior to enrollment. Reviewing past conduct, including criminal histories, is one of the many measures we take to help secure our campus.

An admitted student may be asked to supply additional information about the criminal history and the circumstances surrounding the criminal conviction(s) or pending charges to facilitate the review.

The Criminal Disclosure Review Committee is comprised of trained and experienced professionals well versed in the expectations of maintaining privacy. Information provided to the committee will be shared with only those university officials who have a legitimate educational interest.

Deadline to Submit All Required Documentation for Review

In order to ensure the review will be complete, all admitted students who are required to submit documentation for the criminal disclosure review process must do so at least 15 business days prior to the application term deadlines for each application term as stated below.

Term:

  • Fall: July 15
  • Spring: November 15
  • Summer: May 1
