Academic Recovery Program

Huskies, we are here to help you succeed! Academic struggles happen sometimes, but through the Academic Recovery Program, our academic coaches will work with you and develop a plan to get you back on track.

How it Works

  • As an NIU undergraduate student receiving federal financial aid, you must maintain a 2.0 GPA and pass at least 67% of credits you take. This is known as Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • After one semester of not maintaining these standards, a warning will be issued.
  • If you’re not back to meeting the standards after the warning semester, your financial aid is canceled.
  • If your financial aid is canceled, you may file an appeal with the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office to have the aid reinstated.
  • This is where we come in, here at the Huskie Academic Success Center. As part of the reinstatement process, you are required to complete academic tutoring.
  • If your appeal is approved, the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office will send you an academic coaching intake form. This form will help identify any obstacles that might be in the way and create your best path for success.
  • You will receive a notification in Navigate to complete your first academic coaching appointment. Make sure to attend this appointment, as it is required to complete this process.
  • During the appointment, our academic coaches will get to know you and answer any questions you have.
  • Our academic coaches will create an academic success plan tailored to you, to help you succeed.
