We encourage you to join a student organization connected to the Asian American Resource Center. The following organizations collaborate on events and programs, share and post information, host weekly events and gather informally for socializing.
Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible for the Asian American Resource Center Affiliation Program, organizations must meet the following criteria:
- Be a registered student organization on Huskie Hub.
- Have a primary focus on promoting Asian and Asian American culture at NIU and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity and cultural understanding.
- Be willing to actively participate in program activities and contribute to the center's goals.
Interested organizations can apply by submitting an application form (DOCX) providing details about the organization’s mission, programs and services.
The associate director will assess applications based on the eligibility criteria, and will meet with at least three members of the organization’s executive board to discuss how affiliation aligns with their goals.
AARC Student Organization Affiliation Program
Program Description
The AARC Affiliation Program fosters collaboration between the center and student organizations that promote Asian and Asian American culture on campus. It creates a network of affiliated organizations that provide resources, services and a sense of belonging for individuals of Asian heritage.
Key Features
Resource Sharing
Affiliated organizations access a shared platform with educational materials, cultural resources, programming ideas and engagement strategies to benefit from collective experiences.
Capacity Building
Student leaders receive training through workshops and seminars on cultural competency, outreach, fundraising and program management.
Collaborative Programming
Affiliated organizations are encouraged to host joint events, workshops and cultural showcases to promote cross-cultural understanding and community engagement.
Advocacy and Support
The program supports affiliated organizations in advocacy efforts, offering guidance on student leadership, organizing and civic engagement.
Networking and Mentoring
The program connects affiliated organizations through networking events, online forums and mentorship opportunities to foster collaboration.
Recognition and Visibility
Affiliated organizations gain visibility through online platforms, social media and media partnerships, highlighting their impact on the campus community.
Access to Apply for Funding Through the AARC Student Fees
Affiliated organizations can apply for funding to support programming. Funds may cover honorariums, catering from the Holmes Student Center and cultural supplies (which must be stored at the AARC for shared use). Events funded by this program must display the NIU AARC nameplate in their marketing and include an audience assessment.
