Purpose
The purpose of the Boey Honors Program is to equip undergraduate and graduate students with knowledge, resources, tools and experiences needed to enhance success in the workplace, leadership and service in the community and professionalism as global citizens in a diverse society.
To achieve this purpose, the Boey Honors Program focuses on four strategic objectives designed to:
Foster career and self-development
Promote cultural education
Develop leadership and service
Enhance professionalism
These objectives are based upon the eight career-readiness competencies defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NAYCE) that can be found on the NIU Career Services Huskie Career Launchpad.
Robert and Doris Boey
Robert Boey and his wife, Doris, have been distinguished members of the NIU community for many years. Together, they have contributed to the university's growth in numerous ways, as donors to the NIU Foundation, as advocates for the Asian American Resource Center and as mentors within the NIU community.
Mr. Boey served on the NIU Board of Trustees for 22 years, holding several positions during his tenure, including chairperson. He dedicated his efforts to the continued development of both NIU and the city of DeKalb.
In recognition for their years of support and distinguished contributions, a fellow trustee once affectionately referred to Mr. and Mrs. Boey as the "king and queen of NIU." Mr. Boey has always considered himself a fellow Huskie — a sentiment reflected in the deep commitment he and Doris have shown even after their retirement in spring 2018.
