Mission and Values

An extension of the Asian American Resource Center, the Boey Honors Program primarily focuses on recognizing and supporting academic excellence among NIU students. The program's mission is to enhance students' career preparedness by engaging in four strategic pillars:

  • Encourage academic achievement
  • Promote cultural education
  • Develop student and professional leadership
  • Engage members in service opportunities

Robert and Doris Boey

Robert Boey and his wife, Doris, have been distinguished members of the NIU community for many years. Together, they have contributed to the university's growth in numerous ways, including as donors to the NIU Foundation and as advocates and mentors for the Asian and Asian American community on campus.

Mr. Boey served on the NIU Board of Trustees for 22 years, holding several positions during his tenure, including chairperson. He dedicated his efforts to the continued development of both NIU and the city of DeKalb.

For their years of support and distinguished contributions, a fellow trustee once affectionately referred to Mr. and Mrs. Boey as the "king and queen of NIU." Despite the accolades, Mr. Boey has always considered himself a fellow Huskie — a sentiment reflected in the deep commitment he and his wife have shown up until their retirement in spring 2018.
