My hometown is Hemlock, New York, and I live in DeKalb now.

Ph.D., University of Iowa, science education
M.S., University of Iowa, exercise science
B.S., University of Buffalo, exercise science

School of Interdisciplinary Health Professions

What do you like about working at NIU?
I enjoy the challenge of the interdisciplinary focus. I enjoy the idea of working with experts and students from various fields and backgrounds.

What advice would you give to students currently attending NIU?
Make the most of your opportunities and try to challenge yourself.

Tell us about a research or engaged learning project you have led.
I have worked on several projects investigating the predictive value of anatomy courses on professional school performance. 

What do you enjoy most about mentoring students?
It's a great reminder to check my perspectives. Working with a student requires me to remember what it was like to be a student and what it was like to not understand something as well as I do now. 

What do you hope students take away from their college experience?
The learning experience from college will continue for long after graduation.

What is your favorite memory of NIU?
I’m still making those memories.

What fulfills you personally and professionally?
Seeing my students succeed. It's so fulfilling to be such a tiny part of their growth.

Which of NIU’s core values align with your own?
I'd like to think that all of NIU’s values apply to my own.

Who has influenced your professional path?
My past students. They constantly challenge me and have helped guide my path throughout my career.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? Are you currently doing it? If not, what changed your path?
A pilot and a doctor! I got to be a doctor, but not the kind I originally thought!

What do you do to relax or recharge?
Travel to visit family and friends.
