Our nationally ranked MAC program is designed for working professionals with backgrounds in areas other than accounting. It will give you a solid foundation of accountancy knowledge and an understanding of its role in organizations. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to take the CPA exam in Illinois and most other states.

Careers After NIU's Online MAC
In just two years, this part-time program prepares you to sit for — and excel on — the CPA exam. Our students pass the exam at a rate exceeding the national and state rates. So, you’ll be on the fast track to a rewarding accounting career.
Admission Requirements for NIU's Online Master of Accountancy
You can apply if you have:
- A bachelor’s degree in any area except accounting
- An overall undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 (or a GPA of at least 3.20 in 15 or more hours of graduate coursework)
You’ll apply through the Graduate School. Your application materials will include:
- Transcripts
- Resume
- Statement of Purpose – a 2-3 paragraph statement describing your career goals and how the program will support your professional development and help you achieve those goals.
- International students must also submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
