Our nationally ranked MAC program is designed for working professionals with backgrounds in areas other than accounting. It will give you a solid foundation of accountancy knowledge and an understanding of its role in organizations. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to take the CPA exam in Illinois and most other states.

What Can I Do With a Master of Accountancy Degree from NIU?
In just two years, this part-time program prepares you to sit for — and excel on — the CPA exam. Our students pass the exam at a rate exceeding the national and state rates. So, you’ll be on the fast track to a rewarding accounting career.

How to Apply
You can apply if you have:
- A bachelor’s degree in any area except accounting
- An overall undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 (or a GPA of at least 3.20 in 15 or more hours of graduate coursework)
You’ll apply through the Graduate School. Your application materials will include:
- Unofficial transcripts
- Two letters of recommendation
- A statement of two to three paragraphs about how the program will help you meet your career goals
Additional requirements for international students include:
- If you don’t have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, you must submit your GMAT score.
- If your first language is not English, you must submit a minimum TOEFL (IBT) score of 80 or an IELTS score of 6.5. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution may be accepted instead of a TOEFL score.
