Scholarship Renewal for Current Students

If you received a merit scholarship at the time of admission, or were awarded an additional scholarship or grant based upon your FAFSA or Rise Application, here’s what you need to do to maintain your eligibility.

Merit Scholarship Renewal Criteria

Fall 2020 Start or Earlier

Merit Scholarships awarded for fall 2020 or earlier semesters require continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester and the minimum cumulative GPA indicated below:

  • Presidential Scholarship: 3.3 GPA and participation in the University Honors Program
  • NIU Scholars: 3.2 GPA
  • Huskie Excellence: 3.0 GPA
  • Northern Academic: 3.0 GPA
  • Centennial: 3.0 GPA
  • Transfer Merit: 3.0 GPA

Fall 2021

Merit Scholarships awarded for fall 2021 require continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester and the minimum cumulative GPA indicated below:

  • Presidential Scholarship: 3.3 GPA and participation in the University Honors Program
  • Transfer Merit: 3.0 GPA
  • Freshman Merit: 2.75 GPA

AIM HIGH Renewal Criteria

Fall 2019

Renewal criteria for the AIM HIGH Freshman Excellence or AIM HIGH Transfer Excellence Award:
  • Continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester.
  • Maintain an NIU cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • File a FAFSA by the December 1 priority date.
  • Meet the family income threshold for the respective FAFSA income year.
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress. Please see policy for detailed information.
  • Meet all other AIM HIGH criteria.

Fall 2020

Renewal criteria for the AIM HIGH Transfer Achievement Award:

  • Continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester.
  • Maintain an NIU cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • File a FAFSA by the December 1 priority date.
  • Meet the family income threshold for the respective FAFSA income year.
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress. Please see policy for detailed information.
  • Meet all other AIM HIGH criteria.

Huskie Pledge Renewal Criteria

Renewal criteria for the Huskie Pledge Grant:

  • Continuous full-time enrollment each fall and spring semester.
  • Maintain an NIU cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • File the FAFSA or Illinois RISE Act application each year.
  • Have a household adjusted gross income at or below $80,000.
  • Meet all standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • You have not attempted 135 credit hours or earned a degree.
  • Meet all criteria as outlined by the State of Illinois AIM HIGH program.
