In compliance with The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (E-Sign Act) of 2000 and the Illinois Uniform Electronic Transaction Act (UETA), electronic records will satisfy any statute, regulation, or rule of law that requires such information be provided in writing if consumers affirmatively consent to such use and have not withdrawn consent. As such, Northern Illinois University may use electronic records and signatures to process financial aid.
Electronic forms and notifications used for financial aid verification will be considered official university records. When electronic signatures are required, acknowledgement of this policy and consent will be requested.
You have the right to withdraw your consent in writing, but please understand that the University may rely upon your consent until the written withdrawal is received by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
Northern Illinois University uses Kuali and OnBase Forms for electronic form and document submission. If at any time you cannot reasonably access or retrieve the information in the electronic format, you have the right or option to request a paper form by contacting finaid@niu.edu.
Official communications from the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office, such as your financial aid offer, are primarily sent by email to your NIU email address. At any time, you may request a paper copy of any emails that are part of your student record.
