• Traditional courses are offered in person over 16 weeks at NIU's DeKalb campus. Interact with your instructors and classmates in a traditional classroom setting.

Curriculum for NIU’s M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering: Engineering Management

The engineering management specialization is available on campus or online and prepares you to lead projects, improve processes and make data-informed decisions in complex organizations. Through engineering and management coursework, you'll develop the technical and leadership skills needed to advance your career.

You’ll also complete a graduate project that allows you to address a real-world engineering management challenge and apply your knowledge in a practical setting.

Core Coursework

Core coursework builds expertise in project management, systems engineering management, process improvement, Six Sigma and engineering decision-making.

Additional required coursework in business or engineering allows you to strengthen skills in areas such as accounting, finance, management, data analytics and operations research.

Specialization Tracks

Customize your studies by choosing electives in one of two specialization tracks:

• Engineering decision analysis: Learn to use data, analytics and risk assessment to support organizational decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Global logistics: Explore supply chains, logistics systems and operational strategies that help organizations improve efficiency and performance.

Admission Requirements for NIU’s M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering: Engineering Management

To apply, you must have:

• Accredited B.S. degree in an engineering, technology or related science field
• Completed Calculus I, Calculus II and Statistics
• GPA of 2.75 or better

Students without calculus coursework may still apply and are advised to pursue the decision analysis track.
