The DREAM Action Scholarship is offered by DREAM Action NIU. The goal of the scholarship is to increase the number of underrepresented students who attend and graduate from NIU.
The $500 scholarship is to be used toward NIU expenses for the 2024-2025 academic year. It is available to all eligible students, regardless of immigration status.
Eligibility
You can apply if you will attend NIU in the fall 2024 semester and plan to attend during the 2024-2025 academic year. Incoming freshmen, transfer students and continuing undergraduates are all welcome to apply.
In order to be eligible, you must:
Have a GPA of 2.50 or higher.
Have a need for financial assistance.
Live in Illinois.
Be active in your community through extracurricular and/or volunteer activities.
Agree to perform 20 hours of service per semester (40 hours total) by attending events, meetings and/or workshops affiliated with DREAM Action NIU.
Two one-page essays (typed, double-spaced, 12-point font).
Completed certification and release form.
Recommendation letter from a faculty member or supervisor at an organization where you provided community service. The letter should describe your best qualities and/or leadership abilities. One letter is required. You can include an additional letter if you wish.
Copy of your most recent unofficial transcript.
Proof of NIU enrollment or intent to enroll.
