This Study Abroad Interactive Budget Calculator is designed for estimating study abroad costs, mandatory fees, housing and other costs associated with a study abroad experience. Use the calculator as a guide when planning your study abroad experience.
Standardized Budget Estimates
* If partial meals are includes in the program cost, divide meals per day by 3 and multiply that number by the number of meals per day not included. Ex: 25/3 = 8.3*2 = $16.60
* The Standardized Budget Estimates are the median amount needed in each location to cover meals, basic necessities, and personal expenses. This section does not include extracurricular activities or independent travel.

Truth-In-Tuition
Truth-In-Tuition is for Illinois residents enrolling for the first time at NIU as degree-seeking undergraduates. Students will be charged a fixed tuition rate for four continuous years beginning with their initial enrollment.
Effective fall 2018, NIU extends the Truth-in-Tuition policy to all first-time, degree-seeking undergraduate out-of-state U.S. citizens and permanent resident students that graduated from a U.S. high school.
All in-state, non degree-seeking students and post-baccalaureate students will be charged the most current tuition rate regardless of when they were initially enrolled at the university.

Huskie Bucks
Students who will be living in the Residence Halls for an upcoming semester may open a Huskie Bucks account through Housing & Residential Services and charge the money to their Bursar Account. Huskie Bucks can be used to purchase food at on & off campus dining locations and select restaurants in the area. Huskie Bucks are the only way to do laundry in the residence halls. They can be used for printing/copying at NIU labs and much more. Dollars not used by the end of the semester will roll over.

Flex Dollars
Students who will be living in the Residence Halls for an upcoming semester may purchase Flex Dollars through Housing & Residential Services. Flex Dollars can be used at other campus dining locations and select non-residential locations. The funds are allocated once per semester and rollover from week to week. Dollars not used by the end of the semester will be forfeited.
