Academic Support Services

Explore resources to help you reach your goals.

The most successful Huskies are the ones who ask for help. This Student Life website highlights a variety of support offices on campus to help you succeed in your studies. In addition, be sure to ask your academic advisor, professors and friends for advice and support when you need it. Below are just a few available services that will help you succeed in the classroom.

Founders Learning Commons

Located in Founders Memorial Library, the supportive team at Founders Learning Commons can answer your questions, link you to tutoring services, assist you with research and help improve your writing. If you need access to or help with a laptop or other device, they can provide technology resources and support. They even have spaces for collaborating with classmates or grabbing a bite to eat with friends.

Huskie Academic Success Center

Located in Founders Learning Commons is our Huskie Academic Success Center.  It's a primary place to visit if you are seeking academic supports. They can help you with writing assignments, provide you with tutoring for many general education requirement courses and help you improve your note-taking, studying and test-taking skills.

Math Assistance Center

Our Math Assistance Center (MAC) helps math make sense in a comfortable environment. Also located in the Founders Learning Commons, the MAC is open Monday through Friday and provides tutoring services for most the courses offered through our math department.  No appointment is necessary, just bring your NIU OneCard and walk right in.

Academic Cultural Centers

Our academic cultural centers are inviting spaces where you can celebrate and honor traditions while connecting with students and faculty in a warm and intellectually engaging environment. The also offer mentorship programs, student organizations and engaging events to support your academic and professional interests.

Career Services

Career Services provides personalized guidance for every step of your college journey. In addition to exploring majors and jobs that fit your goals and interests, they also help build your professional skills and networks, so you're preparing for the workplace as you learn in the classroom. You'll get plenty of support when it's time to search for a job, too—whether you are looking for employment on or off campus.
Caroline Menzer

"NIU offers students so many great opportunities to grow and prepare for success after graduation. NIU cares about all majors and provides substantial help for students to thrive at college, which unfortunately is something not every school is concerned about. Whether you are a freshman, senior or transfer student, NIU provides every opportunity for you to strive for success and reach your goals."
