Food Assistance

We believe every Huskie deserves reliable access to nutritious food. Food security is essential to student well‑being, academic success and a sense of belonging. We are committed to supporting students who may need food assistance — whether occasionally or on an ongoing basis. Through campus resources, community partnerships and a culture of care, we work to ensure that no student has to navigate hunger alone and that every member of our community has what they need to thrive.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact us or fill out an assistance request form. There are also opportunities to volunteer and donate to support our Huskies.

On-campus Resources

Huskie Food Pantry

The Huskie Food Pantry provides free, healthy food, as well as personal care items, toiletries, school supplies and supplies for infant/toddler care.

Huskie Harvest

Huskie Harvest reduces food insecurity and campus food waste by collecting surplus food from events and turning it into nutritious, ready‑to‑heat meals available at convenient pickup locations across campus.

Edible Campus

Edible Campus offers seasonal fruits and vegetables in free-to-pick beds on the west side of Founders Memorial Library and the south side of Neptune North.

Campus Dining Services

From plans included in your room and board rate to more robust plans, Campus Dining Services is a great place to find food and is a strong partner with Huskie Harvest.

Off-campus Resources

Food Pantries

There are several local food pantries that provide supplies and resources.

For those who commute or don’t take classes on the DeKalb campus, you can search for the nearest pantry and food support.

SNAP Benefits

The state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can help pay for food. Learn how to apply for benefits eligibility. The Northern Illinois Food Bank also has resources to assist with applying for SNAP benefits.
