We offer Off-Campus Student Meal Plans that combine Flex Dollars and meals to provide flexibility to commuters and students living off campus. You can use meals seven days a week at any of the All You Care To Eat dining centers. Flex Dollars are accepted at the dining centers as well as many more locations across campus. You can also use your allocated meals and Flex Dollars to treat friends and family.

Huskie Block Plans offer a larger variety of dining options and take meals to-go out of All You Care to Eat dining centers. You'll be able to use this plan's meals at Gilbert, Neptune, New Hall, Stevenson, and Flex Dollars at all Campus Dining locations.

Why select this plan?

You'll usually only eat at New Hall, Gilbert, or Neptune.

You don't care about taking meals to-go.

You can use any number of meals per week.

You don't plan to visit Stevenson to use a meal plan swipe.

The Huskie Classic Plan grants you unlimited dine-in access to All You Care to Eat dining centers in Gilbert, Neptune, and New Hall. You can optionally add 110, 220, 330, or 450 Flex Dollars by selecting a Flex Level plan during the selection process. Use Flex Dollars to eat at more retail locations across campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up?

Use the online sign-up portal, you'll be given the option of selecting one of these plans.

Am I able to sign up for a meal plan?

To purchase any of these plans, you must be a current-enrolled, matriculating student for the concurrent semester that the plan is purchased.

How and when do I pay for a meal plan?

Your meal plan will be billed to your NIU Bursar's account along with your room rate. See due dates.

How can I change my meal plan if I already signed up?

You can change your plan by sending an email from your student Z-ID email account to housing@niu.edu and  dining@niu.edu.

Deadlines for requesting changes:

  • If you added your meal plan before the semester started, you have ten business days from the start of the semester to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your meal plan. After those ten business days, you can still upgrade or refill, but you can't cancel or downgrade your plan.
  • If you added your meal plan on or after the first day of the semester, you have ten business days from the date you added your plan to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel it. After those ten business days, you can still upgrade or refill, but you can't cancel or downgrade your plan.

What meal plan should I select?

This depends on how often you plan on eating on campus, and where you would like to eat. Prefer the dine-in experience in our All You Care to Eat locations? The Huskie Classic Plan is great for you. Prefer to grab food on-the-go, or fancy a coffee every morning before class? The Huskie Block Plans, or Flex Level Plans provide flexibility to let you eat at all on campus locations .

I'm running low on my meal swipes or Flex Dollars, can I add more?

If you run out of meal swipes or Flex Dollars during the semester, you can always refill by selecting the same plan again, or another plan from the list above. Refill a meal plan online.

When do unused meals or Flex Dollars expire?

For Huskie Block Plans, unused meals and Flex Dollars both expire at the end of the semester.

For Flex Level Plans, any unused Flex Dollars expire at the end of the academic year, ending with the spring semester.

What are Huskie Bucks, and do I need them?

Huskie Bucks are another way to pay for meals but are not part of a meal plan. Huskie Bucks are also used for printing/copying on campus. You can deposit funds into your Huskie Bucks account at any time. Learn more about Huskie Bucks.
