Hometown: Midlothian, IL

Class Of: 2021

Are you attending NIU on any scholarships?
Yes, an academic scholarship.

Why did you choose your field of study?
I chose this major because of how much I love math and organizing everything around me—I want to be behind the scenes and be able to oversee larger pictures. Industrial engineers typically deal with optimization of more complex processes or organizations. They really aim to eliminate wastes of time and money and mainly help manage others.

How did you learn about NIU, and why did you choose to attend?
I heard about NIU because my sister attends school here as well; I chose to attend because of the endless opportunities that NIU offered.

Are you involved in any activities at NIU? What else do you do for fun/hobbies in your spare time?
I settled on my major after working as a student orientation coordinator for NIU’s Office of Orientation and Family Connections. I’m also in Alpha Phi.

What has been your favorite event at NIU, and why?
My favorite event at NIU was being a part of Dance Marathon. This is an event held to raise money for kids. It’s my favorite because it was so much fun and being able to meet who we were raising money for is an amazing feeling.

What has your experience inside the classroom been like at NIU?
I have personally enjoyed classes here because I have had both large and small lectures. This gives me the experience of college with more of a personal touch.

What is something you have experienced at NIU that you will be able to take with you into future endeavors in your field?
I believe that our community helps anyone, any chance they have, and I believe alumni can take that with them everywhere.

Would you recommend NIU to others and why? What’s a general piece of advice you’d give to someone starting college?
Yes, I would recommend NIU, and I have recommended NIU because we have so many opportunities such as CHANCE, working programs and even a small student-to-teacher ratio, and it is so beneficial for learning.

Any family or other loved ones you would like to mention?
My older sister Millie is one of the reasons I came here—she’s intelligent and one of the best people I know!
