What did you want to be when you were growing up? Are you pursuing that as a major, or have you taken another path?
As a child, I always wanted to be a pilot. Unfortunately, life happens, and that dream is on hold. Nevertheless, I love being a musician.

What is your major (and/or minor) and why did you decide on this course of study?
I am pursuing a Master of Music degree with a specialization in performance, particularly opera. I chose music because I am good at it. I have a good voice, and music has helped me with self-expression.

What has been something you have found pleasantly surprising about your experience at NIU?
I love the community. It is quite wonderful to see different folks from different walks of life coexisting. Also, I particularly love how experienced and welcoming the faculty are.

How have you connected with other students to study for classes, meet new people or form new friendships?
I have made a lot of really good friends. I am a people person and make friends easily.

Are you involved in any student organizations, mentoring programs or extra-curricular activities? If so, which ones? How have they added to your experience as a Huskie?
Yes, I joined NIU’s Nigerian Student Association and was nominated to be president of the association. We host a couple of get-togethers and have collaborated with other organizations to host events. Being the president has been a tasking job, but it has taught me to be patient with people and also to be a leader.

What NIU offices, departments or resources have helped you feel safe, supported and successful? And how?
The Huskie Food Pantry has been a literal lifesaver.

Who has been one of your favorite instructors/professors and why? What course did they teach?
Dr. Eric Johnson and my voice teacher, Dr. Sam Handley. They have been so helpful and impactful, helping me get an on-campus job during the summer.

How have you benefited by attending class regularly?
I get to learn from professionals, that in itself is the greatest benefit.

Where is your favorite spot on campus or in the community? Why are you drawn to it?
The Rec Center and the Music Library, because I love to work out and meet new people.

What advice would you give to a student who is researching colleges to apply to?
Come to NIU, it's amazing here.

Why is a college education important to you?
A college education is basically the first step toward accomplishing my dreams and aspirations.

What strategies do you use to manage your time between the responsibilities of school, work, friends and family?
I try not to carry my schoolwork home, except in rare situations. I try to work out as much as I can, and I call my family members on the weekends.

How do you stay informed about events and services that are available on campus?
Through the email I get from the Northern Star and Huskie Hub.

What do you do to relax or recharge?
I like to sleep.

Please tell us about your job and hobbies.
I am a choral librarian. I sort out the sheet music and help prepare for concerts and events.
