Advising

We maintain our own staff of advisers to help you plan your course of study, clarify graduation requirements and deal with unusual problems or circumstances.

You should meet with a department academic adviser at least once per semester to plan your schedule and monitor your progress toward graduation.

Although MyNIU self service functions should never be used in place of actual in-person advising, the "view unofficial transcript," "view degree progress report," and "quick what-if" functions are excellent tools for self-assessing degree progression and evaluating the viability of switching or adding majors and minors prior to meeting with your advisor. A printout of your current degree progress report is also very useful for official advising, so consider bringing one with you to any such meeting.
