Testing When You Feel Sick

Students

If you are not feeling well (this includes minor symptoms, such as the common cold) or think you might have COVID-19 or suspect you have been exposed to COVID-19, please do the following:

  • Immediately stay home and quarantine to not expose others.
  • Please complete the self-reporting checklist using your NIU credentials.
  • Call the Northwestern Medicine Student Health Center at NIU (815-306-2777) to schedule a telemedicine appointment if you would like to seek care from a medical provider or be advised on where to take a COVID-19 PCR test. Please do not come to the Health Center without an appointment at this time.
  • If you are instructed to or wish to take a COVID-19 PCR test off campus, please see the Illinois community based testing site for a list of local and regional options. If you do not have insurance to get tested or are experiencing other barriers (i.e., no transportation), testing can be arranged through the DeKalb County Health Department (DCHD). When you go to take the test, it’s important that you use your local NIU address.  Please update the self-reporting checklist with your results.
