Online M.S. in Cybersecurity

With a master’s degree in cybersecurity, you’ll be prepared for leadership and technical positions in cybersecurity research and IT security management. Our innovative curriculum aligns with the NIST’s National Initiative on Cybersecurity Education (NICE) knowledge units and related National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) designations.
Core courses are entirely online. A hybrid option is available for interested domestic and international students.
Careers After NIU's Online M.S. in Cybersecurity
You’ll be prepared for roles in IT security management in both industry and government settings. You’ll also be ready to excel on the certified information systems security professional (CISSP), certified information security manager (CISM), CompTIA Security+ and other certification exams.
Admission Requirements for NIU's Online M.S. in Cybersecurity
You can apply if you have a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Depending on your degree area, you may be required to take up to three preparatory courses in mathematics and computer science.
You’ll apply through the Graduate School. Your application materials will include:
- Unofficial transcripts (official transcripts must be provided if admitted to the program)
- Resume
- Personal statement – a 500-word statement outlining your preparation for the program, your goals for graduate study, and your professional aspirations beyond graduation.
If you completed undergraduate studies at an international institution, you may be required to submit English language proficiency scores (TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo) from within the last two years.
