Supporting Military-Connected Huskies

Whether you are just beginning your service-connected education journey or finishing your final semester, Military and Veteran Services is here for you.

We work alongside veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, guard members and their families to make military education benefits easier to navigate and to connect you with the people and resources that help you thrive at NIU. From certifying your enrollment to celebrating you at graduation, our team is in your corner every step of the way.

Certifying Your Enrollment

Each semester you plan to use your benefits, let us know by submitting an enrollment certification form after you register for classes. Be sure to send it in at least a week before the semester starts so your benefits are applied on time and you avoid any late fees on your NIU account.

Using Military Tuition Assistance

Service members planning to use military Tuition Assistance should speak with their Educational Services Officer or counselor within their military branch of service before enrolling at NIU. Tuition Assistance must be approved by your branch of service within 7 business days before the course start date, or you may be responsible for all tuition costs.

Military and Veteran Services is proud to offer the Eickhoff Veterans Scholarship, made possible by NIU alum Robert Eickhoff in partnership with the NIU Alumni Association.
Military and Veteran student success coaching is now available.
Students can send a copy of their Joint Services Transcript to Admissions to have it evaluated for college credit.

Celebrating Our Military-Connected Graduates

Each year, we honor our graduating veterans, service members and military-connected students with a commemorative NIU Military and Veteran Services coin, a lasting symbol of their service, their accomplishment and their place in the Huskie community.
