Observe and Model Biosphere-Atmosphere Interaction
Modeling physical and dynamic interactions between the land surface and atmosphere using numerical models to advance our understanding of land use change due to urbanization and intensive farming on regional weather/ climate; Simulating potential climate change and its impact due to natural variability and human activities (greenhouse gases, air pollution, large-scale land use change);
Conducting field measurement and modeling to examine variations in water cycle as well as biogeophysical characteristics and processes of the crops in the corn belt; Studying carbon, water and nitrogen budgets for potential bioenergy plants to understand potential soil carbon sequestration.
