Register for Water Pollution in Thailand

This panel will discuss pollution in waterways throughout Thailand. Pollution can impose economic burdens on society, from disease to food security, costing industry and causing environmental damage. Moreover, these problems will likely worsen with climate change. In Thailand specifically, agriculture uses 70% of water resources, especially groundwater, and Thailand leads global rice exports. The Central Plain, the nation's main groundwater reservoir, is experiencing concerning groundwater depletion, land subsidence, and seawater intrusion. Further research on water resources and management is needed. This panel will present research on microbial risks in peri-urban canals. It will examine the impact of wastewater treatment and discharge into water bodies. It will address groundwater issues in northern Thailand. It will investigate surface and groundwater contamination from illegal industrial dumping in eastern Bangkok and the Eastern Economic Corridor. Additionally, it will examine groundwater quality in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.
