Work-based learning (WBL) is an essential component of quality K-12 Career and Technical Education. In WBL students work directly with industry or community professionals in real workplace settings or simulated environments at an educational institution. Students get a chance to apply their learning firsthand to perform the tasks required in a given career field.
View the ISBE Work-based Learning Manual for guidance on creating work-based learning opportunities for K-12 students. Activities are designed to introduce career exploration as soon as possible, build increasingly interactive experiences, and maximize student exposure to careers by the time they complete secondary education.
Did you know? A WBL designation is required to teach work-based learning.
There are several ways to satisfy the WBL special designation, and our Work-based Learning Online Course is one great option. It’s free, convenient and offered several times each year!
Find it in the ISBE CTE calendar (PDF) to register.
