Program Purpose

The goal of the NIU Illinois CTE Project is to develop and enhance K-12 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across Illinois, equipping students with the industry-relevant knowledge, skills and competencies needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving workforce. By fostering strong partnerships with educators, employers and communities, the project aims to prepare students for both immediate career opportunities and lifelong learning. The project aims to enhance educational equity and access to high-quality CTE for Illinois K-12 students, ensuring that all students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, are equipped with the skills, work-based learning experiences, and credentials needed for successful transitions to postsecondary education and careers.

Vision Statement

We envision a future where all Illinoisans have access to meaningful work that provides a living wage, supporting dignity and belonging. In this future, all Illinois students would have equitable access to innovative and engaging Career and Technical Education opportunities, fostering goal setting, skills development, work-based learning opportunities, and college and career readiness, ultimately contributing to a more consciously and critically aware citizenry.

Mission Statement

The mission of the NIU Illinois CTE Project is to collaboratively drive systemic improvement in Career and Technical Education across Illinois. By focusing on equity, quality, and continuous data-informed professional learning and instructional design, we aim to empower educators, enrich student learning experiences, eliminate barriers, and strengthen connections between education and the workforce. Through targeted professional development, instructional resources and strategic partnerships, we strive to create a sustainable pipeline of diverse, skilled CTE professionals who meet the evolving needs of our communities.
