Goals

Our overarching goals:

  • Use an intergenerational service-learning context to train the future gerontological workforce (including but not limited to allied health, psychology, nursing and leadership in gerontology students) and increase student confidence and competence for communicating with adults who have acquired, neurogenic cognitive-communicative disorders.
  • Explore optimal behavioral techniques to maximize cognitive reserve, strategy use and brain health for older adults at risk for cognitive decline.
  • Explore optimal strength-based, person-centered techniques for maximizing functional communication, active engagement and quality of life for adults living with acquired, neurogenic cognitive-communicative disorders such as aphasia or dementia.
