Your NIU AccountID (Z-ID) is the login you will use to access NIU systems and services throughout your time at NIU, including your Next Steps Portal, MyNIU, your NIU email account and Blackboard.
After submitting your application to NIU, you received an email from admissions@niu.edu with your NIU AccountID and the steps you must take to activate it. See Account ID Activation and Access for full instructions, including how to find your Z-ID if you do not know it.
Your Next Steps Portal
Your Next Steps Portal is where you complete your next steps as an admitted student. Log in with your NIU AccountID (Z-ID) to view your personalized checklist of tasks you need to complete. In your Next Steps Portal, you will:
- Confirm your intent to enroll.
- Pay your enrollment fee.
- Register for Orientation.
You will also complete additional steps depending on whether you are a first-year or transfer student.
MyNIU
You will also use MyNIU, the hub for the MyNIU Student System, our student information system, throughout your time at NIU. As an admitted student, you will use it to:
- View and accept your financial aid offer.
- Review your transfer credit report, if applicable.
- Add shared access for a parent or family member to view charges, make payments, view your schedule and/or view grades.
To log in to the MyNIU Student System, you'll use your NIU AccountID (Z-ID). You can go directly to MyNIU or find the link at the top of the NIU homepage under the "Quick Links" menu, and then choose "MyNIU Student System."
