General Fees are assessed each semester at a per-credit-hour rate (up to 12 credit hours) to students taking classes associated with the DeKalb campus. These fees support university operations and student activities incurred by the university including but not limited to:
- Building maintenance for classroom buildings and other campus facilities such as Holmes Student Center, the Recreation Center and the Convocation Center, and campus infrastructure improvements in order to provide students with a quality learning environment;
- University Health Service which provides comprehensive ambulatory health care for students while the university is in session;
- Huskie Bus service (fee paying students can ride buses without paying charged fares);
- Intercollegiate athletic programs for both men and women;
- Grants-in-aid program (a need-based scholarship program);
- Student Association and its activities such as concerts, films, speakers, etc.
- Other student support services such as student government programming, arts and culture, the Northern Star student run newspaper, and inclusive excellence programming.
