Transcript Requests

Online requests:

  • Paper Transcript to be sent through the mail (A signed consent form is required to complete the online process. The form will be generated during the process.)

If you have a form that needs to be sent with your official transcript you must use the PDF below and fax them together to us. DO NOT use the online service for requests that include additional form(s).

  • Electronic Transcript to be sent electronically in PDF format (A signed consent form is required to complete the online process. The form will be generated during the process.)

If you are a student who attended Northern Illinois University prior to 1987, an electronic version of your transcript is not available in a PDF format.

Official transcripts of academic records are released only by a signed written request.

The fee for an official transcript is $5.00 for each copy mailed. The charge for a written certification of enrollment or other data is $3.50. If paying with check or money order please make payable to Northern Illinois University.

Please include all information including your Visa or Mastercard information. Unless your request is accompanied by pre-payment, your request will not be processed.

If you have been enrolled at any time since 1987, you may pick up a transcript at any time during office hours. Please bring identification.

Transcripts will not be released for academic records that are subject to an encumbrance. Examples of encumbrances are:

  • Past due financial obligations to the University, such as unpaid tuition, fees, or fines.
  • Incomplete admissions requirements, such as missing transcripts, or test scores.
  • Disciplinary action

Current students can check their encumbrances on MyNIU under the heading “Holds” in their Student Center.

Sending someone to pick up your transcript:

If you need to send someone to pick up your transcript you must fill out one of the following transcript request forms.

You should instruct your friend that they will need to bring their own photo ID with them when they present these two documents to us otherwise we will not release your transcript.  If your record has an encumbrance we will not release your transcript.
