On occasion, the University closes facilities due to existing or developing weather conditions. University wide closure information is posted on the main NIU webpage at www.niu.edu/weather/.
There are times the main campus in DeKalb may remain open, but evening off-campus classes may be cancelled. If this happens, faculty members are responsible for notifying their students.
Weather conditions in the northern Illinois region can change rapidly. There may be times when the university does not make a closure decision, but a faculty member cancels their particular class. When this happens, the faculty member is also responsible for notifying their students.
Finally, there may be instances where classes are not cancelled, yet a student determines driving conditions are too dangerous. Students should exercise their own judgment in regard to these decisions.
Off-campus courses adhere to the same holiday closure schedules as the mail campus. These closures include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving break, Christmas break and Martin Luther King Day. View holiday closure information by visiting the NIU academic calendar.
Rooms are unlocked one half-hour prior to the class start time. Assigned room numbers are posted in the Outreach Center lobby at the beginning of the semester. If you cannot locate your classroom number, call Andrew Kopecky at 815-753-8788.
Free parking is available at each of the Outreach Centers. An auxiliary overflow lot is available at NIU Hoffman Estates.
NIU offers a variety of courses on a convenient Saturday format. There are Saturday courses in the Chicago suburban area for both undergraduate and graduate credit in a variety of disciplines. One Saturday course schedule provides for seven Saturday meetings on alternating Saturdays.
