How to Apply

SROP Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in the Summer Research Opportunity Program, you must:

  • Be a full-time student enrolled at NIU
  • Be a sophomore with at least 30 credit hours or be a junior or senior (who will not be graduating in the spring or summer of 2018)
  • Have declared a major
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
  • Commit to participate in the program for eight weeks (June - August)
  • Have NOT enrolled in summer courses and will not be employed at another job during SROP

Program Timeline

  • December 1, 2017: Application opens
  • March 11, 2018: Application is due
  • March 19-March 23, 2018: Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis
  • Week of March 26, 2018: Participants will be notified of their acceptance
  • May 4, 2018: SROP Orientation
  • June 18, 2017 - August 4, 2018: Students will be active in their research
